Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation Launches Changing What’s Possible: The Disability Innovation Podcast

Fri 01 Jul 2022

Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation (CPARF) is thrilled to launch our first-ever podcast, Changing What’s Possible: The Disability Innovation Podcast.

Highlighting remarkable stories of life-changing science and tech, this podcast will introduce you to cutting-edge science, technology, and innovation that provide real-life impacts for people with disabilities.

Companies and researchers around the world are creating new products and improving the accessibility and affordability of technology to facilitate mobility, communication, and participation. In partnership with the disability-focused start-up accelerator Remarkable and with generous support from SmartJob, LLC, CPARF is working to support the development of new assistive devices and accessible technology to improve the lives of people with cerebral palsy (CP) and other disabilities.

“Remarkable US embraces ‘nothing about us without us,’ — a concept that underpins the disability rights movement,” said CPARF Executive Director Michael Pearlmutter. “Changing What’s Possible is a natural and necessary extension of that. Whether we’re highlighting the story of a trailblazing disabled leader or amplifying the story of a user with a disability, the disabled perspective is front and center.”

In our first season, each podcast episode features entrepreneurs and experts who are helping to bring life-changing products to the market, as well as perspectives from people with lived experience. People with CP and other disabilities will share their valuable insights about using these innovations in their everyday lives, and some clinicians will share the ways that this transformative technology will help their disabled clientele. “These stories need to be told — and they deserve to be heard,” remarked Jocelyn Cohen, CPARF’s Vice President of Communications and Engagement.

Access to information about new technologies is often a barrier that prevents people from trying products and services that may be useful to them or improve their quality of life. We’re excited to fill this gap with Changing What’s Possible by introducing you to innovative products and services that can have an immediate impact.

“As someone who inadvertently stumbled upon mobility technology that’s profoundly impacted my life, I know how hard it is for people to find information like this,” said Katy Gaastra, CPARF’s Digital Engagement Manager and Founder of Cerebral Palsy Strong. “And I know how important it is that they do.”

You can find a new episode of Changing What’s Possible on the first Friday of every month on your favorite podcast platform.

We hope you listen and subscribe to learn more about how you and people you know can benefit from today’s latest advances in disability tech.
