Hayley Smithers-Sheedy

Hayley is a Research Fellow at the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Institute, Sydney.

She coordinates and supports the establishment, maintenance, and execution of research from the Australian Cerebral Palsy Register. She also supports the organisation’s strategic plan by building local and international research capacity aimed at preventing and curing cerebral palsy.

In 2016, Hayley obtained her PhD from at The University of Sydney. Her thesis evaluated the impact and outcomes of cerebral palsy due to congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV); a common virus that circulates in our community but when transmitted to the fetus during pregnancy it can sometimes cause stillbirth, premature birth and neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy.
